Pinning the Edging

I had a moment of panic when it seemed that the edging was far too long for the tablecloth. What was I thinking when I decided how many repeats to do for each side?? But I marked the half way and quarter way points of one side of the cloth, using pins, then worked out the quarters of the edging and eased the edging to fit. I've pinned half of one side, yes, it works. I've pinned it so that one chain hangs off the edge of the cloth, while the rest of the edging will be sewn to the cloth.

  1. I've had that moment of panic with hankies, which aren't nearly as big. Luckily the edging always has eased in beautifully. I'm really eager to see how this looks completely finished!

  2. I've had a similar panic when I've sewn in ends etc and gone to sew edgings onto hankies and thought I'd got it twisted before the final join!! Fortunately it's never happened but the panic has several times!!!! It's looking fabulous.

    1. I know about that panic, that's why I left the last repeat until I've sewn everything on! Bit of a nuisance to have the shuttles dangling while I do the sewing, but I didn't trust myself to avoid twisting.

  3. Oh yes! I know that moment too well. Last hankie? I thought it was too small so I ironed it and pulled it longer as I did. Big mistake! Then I had to soak it in hot water and pray that it would revert to the proper measurement, which amazingly, it did.

Ah, we tatters do live with such stress!
Looking forward to seeing the cloth.

    1. I wondered for a moment if the tablecloth had shrunk when I washed it. It did occur to me to try to stretch it too. Glad I didn't!
