Boxy

I sold several of these boxy little pouches at the Christmas market. I made them following this tutorial on three bears blog. I think I'll have to make one for myself, but in the meantime this one is for a gift. It has nail care products inside, but as three bears point out, there are all sorts of possibilities for what to put in such pouches. The tatting is Rainbow Hearts by Betsy Evans. Links to the pattern don't seem to be working, which is a shame because it's a lovely pattern.

  1. That's a pouche I love and I've made one for a gift too, but I've an obsession to add a linen inside, and it was not easy to me! Love that heart pattern.

  2. Fear not - the Betsy Evans heart tutorial is still available via Georgia Seitz, who found it in the 'Way Back Machine', a handy site which can sometimes find lost internet patterns.

Your bag turned out very well! You've been so busy with all your knitting, sewing tatting! It was interesting to read about the changes you made to the sweater! Pretty tricky to do with a lacy pattern, but you might have solved it!

I remember being delighted when charted knitting of lace or Aran patterns became 'accepted' by knitting magazines. And I found Barbara Walker's book which explained how to write knitting symbols on graph paper, and I started to 'chart' existing patterns to make them much easier to knit. When I tried explaining it to my knitting guild in the 1980s-90s, I met a lot of resistance. Most still wanted to follow the written out instructions! If it weren't for the charts, I wouldn't have been able to knit many of the 'textured' sweaters I now have in my wardrobe!

    1. I think charts are absolutely wonderful!! I have knitted lace from written out patterns, and my mother-in-law showed me how to write them out large and put markers round certain instructions to make them eye catching, but I think charts are really very much easier to follow.

    2. Oh yes, I agree about charted patterns ! I find them so much easier to follow . Unfortunately, I still haven't been able to write them out myself - I find it difficult to convert written pattern into charts myself.

And thank you Kathy, for sharing that gorgeous heart pattern link :-)
