Kingfisher Blue
I have finished the necklace, in spite of distractions! It is 9 beads in circumference, 56 cm or 22 inches in length.
When Jack was digging a bed in the front garden yesterday, a kingfisher came and sat right next to him so that it could swoop down on the lizards and insects he was disturbing. It was so close that Jack was able to take photos of it with his phone:
It's a Brownhooded Kingfisher. This front view doesn't show it, but he has tail feathers that match the turquoise in my necklace. Here's a picture from Newman's Birds of Southern Africa to show you:

What a lovely design on your necklace. I'm very envious you having the beautiful Kingfisher so near you. Our Kingfishers are very similar in colour to number three, only the side of the head around the eyes has more turquoise.
ReplyDeleteNumber 3 is a pygmy kingfisher.
ReplyDeleteThe necklace is gorgeous! The photo of the kingfisher is amazing. I don't carry my phone around with me, so I'll probably never be able to take a picture of any of the birds we see in our yard. I tried to take a picture of a hawk that was perched on our porch rail a few months ago. He must have seen me reach for my phone. I was amazed at his size, and couldn't believe I was seeing him at such close range.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful! I must say I was surprised the kingfisher stayed put when Jack got his phone out of his pocket.
ReplyDeleteI love this one and this bird I love bird watching and identifying the sounds the make tooπ¦π¦π¦ π¦π¦’❤
ReplyDeleteYou are industrious! I love the connection with the birds. I hope they sell well. Or, are you going to wear this yourself to celebrate your creativity?
ReplyDeleteI do hope to sell it. Won’t build up stock if I wear them myself!
DeleteI like the design of that necklace!! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat picture of the bird!!
Wonderful post!!! There is a white throated/breasted kingfisher that visits regularly, and I Love watching it - both perched (reminds me of Jeeves π) and flying (what a show-off π) πππ
ReplyDeleteI love hearing the stories about watching birds!
DeleteOh, I have plenty! Love watching and identifying birds. And their chirps and songs range from soothing to naughty to angry π
DeleteTwo beautiful necklaces,
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous photo, he was so lucky he stayed long enough to get the photo
