Masquerade

I'm working on Mary Konior's Masquerade. I just love the way the motifs come together to make interesting shapes in between.

I had a couple of false starts. The first flower had too many petals. The first motif had petals that are all the same, whereas the outer petals should be 3-6-6-3 and the inner ones 3-4-4-3. The good thing about doing a practice motif was that I realised that the tension needs to be very firm, especially on the short chains between each repeat. And picots must be kept small.

  1. I've never looked twice at this design in the book - it's lovely! Milford thread again?

    1. Yes, it's the same Milford thread. I like Milford. It did used to be a bit overwound, but I think that has improved. And they have some nice bright colours.

  2. Another beautiful piece of tatting and I am so tempted to have a go at this pattern, makes a change from round doilies.

    1. I've been looking for a big oval doily for ages, Sally - as my table is that shape.

  4. I do love that motif, and I've often thought of making a mat for my table out of it. Thinking is as far as I've gotten, though!

  5. Oh this is nice, and love the pattern when all put together, makes that little circle. I like the tips, I just messed up with mine, loosing petal count too :( This is a wonderful book, thanks for the pleasant reminder to look at it more often :)
