Just Add Buttons

I've finished knitting my cardigan, but will have to wait until I go to town again to buy buttons for it. I spun 14 skeins of wool, each just over 9 metres in length. I have very little left over, so  my estimating was spot on. I know I've said it before, but the pattern is Katharine Hepburn Jacket, designed by Kathy Zimmerman, a free pattern from Knitting Daily. I made the sleeves full length rather than the 3/4 length of the original. I also used 4mm needles instead of 3.75mm and knitted the smallest size to get the measurements for the second size, my handspun wool being a little thicker than the yarn specified. After reading this entry on the Not so Granny blog,  I thought that when I've sewn the buttons on, I'll show a picture of myself wearing the cardigan. Perhaps.

  8. It looks lovely! I'm half-tempted to start one right away, but I must be good and finish the things I'm working on. Please do post a photo of yourself wearing it - even if it's only from the back, or with your head cropped out of the picture. I get so frustrated with photos of finished garments on Ravelry that are not shown worn; it really does help in helping to decide whether it's something I'd make or not.

  10. Thanks everyone. Yes, I agree with Jesse that you must get a better idea of a garment when it's being worn, though it's a lot easier for me to just take a photo with the item on the bench. Watch this space!

  12. Beautiful sweater! And lots of buttonholes!

I was so amazed when I realized who the designer is! I've been acquainted with Kathy Zimmerman since around 1991 when our respective knitting guilds here in
Pennsylvania got together several times to plan our guilds' co-hosting of the Knitting Guild of America's convention held in Pittsburgh in 1993.
It was a big event with 600 attendees from around the world. This was all before the internet! Kathy has her own shop (about two hours from here} and has been immersed in knitting 'forever', whereas I was switching my allegience to tatting starting around that time, and by 2000 I had dropped out of my local guild. I do still attend a local Knitting/Crochet Festival held in the Pittsburgh area each year, and just visited with Kathy again, as she is a vendor. She also can't believe it's been 21 years since the big convention! Her energy amazes me, and I am in awe of her designing talent!

    1. Oh wow, Kathy, that's really interesting, thanks. I wondered if Kathy Zimmerman is related to Elizabeth Zimmerman. Do you know? I've used Elizabeth's percentage principle in my own designing.
