At yesterday's craft group meeting, we crocheted soapsaver bags. The idea is that you put those little bits of left over soap in there, so that they can be used instead of going to waste. I underestimated how much cotton yarn it would take, so mine is a harlequin version. It has an interesting crochet stitch - you do a treble in the second stitch and then the first, so that they're crossed. It gives a lovely texture. It was a good project for a meeting because it didn't take long, most of us finished or almost finished in the meeting. Too often no one completes the project once they get home!
I love the harlequin look of your soap saver! The stitch sounds interesting, and I imagine it gives a nice texture. I made soap savers years ago, but gave up on them. Dave is very good about using soap slivers if they're not in a soap saver bag. So, I lost my interest in making them.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, Jack does the same. A better idea might be to put a new (!) bar of soap in for a gift. And I like Cindy's idea of using it to hang soap up to dry.
DeleteOld fashion, great Idea, My mom used to melt all the slivers to make a bar of soap. Love the bag. In school we had to bring in unfinished projects and trade them with someone to finish, or finish them yourself, we were given points for that, but the feeling that the project was finally done out weighed the grade :)
ReplyDeleteUFOs are never a good thing!
DeleteI love this little soap saver. Did someone just make this up, or is there a pattern somewhere? This would be handy for cabin or camping use too - just hang in a tree to dry :)
ReplyDeleteThe pattern comes from a magazine called Simply Crochet, issue 3, an English magazine. Good idea for drying soap!
DeleteNice and useful!
ReplyDeleteLovely stitch, texture, pattern ! Could be used for coins, too :-)
ReplyDeleteI think the 2 colours add more interest & if you 'flatten' it from the middle, you get 2 different colours on either side - Magic !
Great idea!! :) Yours looks wonderful!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI like your harlequin effect and the triple crossed stitch. I should crochet one of these for it drives me crazy to always throw away so much bar soap. Husband will not use the last fourth of a bar and it is so wasteful. Creative Crochet Bliss...
