Ducks On My Doorstep
On Thursday we found six little wild ducklings on our doorstep. We're a bit puzzled as to how they got there. The pan, which has water in it for the first time in several years, is a couple of hundred metres/yards from the house, which is a long way for little ducks to travel. Jack thought of taking them back to the pan, but there are far too many dangers lurking - herons, owls, mongooses, snakes.... They'd be someone's dinner as quick as a flash. So for now they'll stay with us. They're eating and drinking and grooming themselves, seem to be happy enough in their plastic crate.

So sweet, I had one duck and she was nice would follow me around in the yard as I hung up laundry. they have a keen eye for birds of pray, and duck eggs are very large and fun to cook with.
ReplyDeleteAwwww...they are such adorable visitors!!! :)
ReplyDeleteYou and I - we'd get along! In my universe, there are those who are "animal people" and those who are not. The difference shows up pretty quickly. : ))
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely!
DeleteThey are so cute!
ReplyDeleteWhat is your plan with them in the future?
Once they get big enough to fend off mongooses etc they can go back to the wild. I'd like to think that we'll be able to feed them for a while, but we'll have to see how it goes.
DeleteThey look lovely with that black stripe through their eye!! I am soo curious to know which type of duck this will be!
ReplyDeleteYes, once they've got some feathers we'll be able to decide what they are.
DeleteAwwww, they're so cute! I wonder what happened to Mommy Duck....
