A Bit Of A Battle

I found a new source of towels that are bigger, fluffier and less expensive than the green and orange ones I originally bought. That's good, right? Right. Except that when I came to sew this dinosaur's spikes to the back of the hood, I discovered that four layers of fluffy toweling will simply not fit under the pressure foot of my sewing machine. I had already zig zagged the spikes to one side of the fabric, so I finished off the sewing by hand. The stitches sink into the fabric, so the rather rough stitches don't show. Now that I know, I'll look for solutions before I find myself in that situation again. Thinner fabric for the spikes, a different pressure foot perhaps.....This dinosaur will go to his new home this afternoon.

  1. I think the dinosaur is my favorite one so far. He's adorable! I ran into a problem with too much thickness when I sewed two polar fleece blankets together for my granddaughters. I remember I had to go to the longest stitch and go very slowly. It still was not neat and straight. Thick fabrics are very frustrating!

    1. Yes, three layers needed slow and careful, four was just too much.

  5. Maybe you need an even feed quilting foot for your machine? I've used one for quilting, it was quite good.
