I went to a craft group meeting yesterday and was given my beret and scarf set back from the national competition. It says the proportions of the beret are incorrect, the band is too wide. I made it narrower than the original pattern, but not narrow enough it seems. It says my trimmings are suitable and tension 'fair'. Right.
I also showed my practice glasses case to Corlie, our resident expert. Corlie likes what I've done, but says there needs to be more embroidery. She suggested adding a frame around the motif. That's fine, that's something I can work on.
Feedback is always so important - another step towards improvement and 'success'. 🌹🌹🌹
ReplyDeleteI think your work is wonderful, and I would be crushed by an evaluation like that. I understand that it's part of the process, still...
ReplyDeleteI guess that's why I don't enter my work in competitions, and I seldom sell anything. I would rather give my projects away to those who think I do a wonderful job!
I understand your philosophy, I usually follow it too. But I do the competitions to support my group. I really have learnt a lot in the process though, so I don’t worry too much. Especially when I think that the depth of the band is just a matter of opinion.
DeleteYou are much stronger than I! I love bothe set and the case! Especially the case!
ReplyDeleteWow you are number one in my book 😃🦋😃 I really think that you need to take a picture of the other people's stuff I have many times wondered what the first place looks like. You have a golden heart that goes with you golden hands 💛🌞💛
ReplyDeleteI would have if I’d been there. I planned to be but had to cancel at the last minute when Jack went into hospital. There is always spectacular work there, I like to see it.
DeleteBah humbug to those who criticised your work. BAH HUMBUG in case they didn't hear me.
ReplyDeleteI think you deserve first place!!! ;)
ReplyDeleteI think your work is absolutely wonderful!!!
Thanks for the support, I feel like I win when I lose!
ReplyDeleteI thought your beret was perfect but what do I know I’m only a knitter.
ReplyDeleteI hope those that criticised your knitting can do better......I doubt it
I like it, probably they would have set specific size of the hat and scarf, rules can be strict at competition. The stitch on the hat is beautiful and I love short scarves.

ReplyDeleteI think you're very brave to enter these competitions! but I suppose everyone has their own opinion, and as long as you're happy with your pieces, that's really all that matters.
Ouch, those rules are really strict!!! There are so many styles of berets, How could the proportions be wrong??? Thumbs up to you for looking at the bright side of things. I guess the winners made wonderful things too but the gap between winners and others is not necessarily big, you created a very beautiful set!
