Recalculating

So I made a test skirt to enable me to work out how much fabric to buy for the next one, made a miscalculation and came home with insufficient! How daft is that? I decided to fudge it, knowing that the skirt wouldn't hang as well as the original because it's not cut properly on the cross.  I figured that if it was really bad, I could just wear it at home. But I think it'll do. No one is going to stop me in the street and say, "Excuse me, your skirt is not hanging correctly".
The fabric is a teeny tiny houndstooth.

I'd still like to make a skirt according to the pattern, so I will have to buy more fabric, calculating more accurately.

  1. If anyone would stop you I would say you did it as a fashion statement. ;)

  2. The fashion police is out to get you! :) I'm sure nobody will notice if it doesn't hang properly. I like the tiny houndstooth.

  3. Huh, didn't realise there was a name - houndstooth! Always something new to learn when I read your posts :-)
My 'wasteful' solution is to buy more fabric than is calculated, especially when doing it for the first time. Now I always leftovers which, despite my best intentions, have Not been used in a quilt ;-P

    1. I measured the folded fabric and forgot to double it, so my calculation was wa-a-y out. Proper layout leaves a lot over, which I won’t make into a quilt either.

  4. Both your fabrics look lovely :) As for the pattern, there are many different possible shapes for a skirt, no-one will know the one you had in mind at first. As lond as YOU like it, it's the right shape ;)

  5. Don’t think the fashion police will be calling on you when you wear it at home to complain it’s not quite right

  8. Thanks for the new word :) just for curiosity, in Italian we use a French word specific for this: "pied de poule", I have memories of a mum's skirt, I was in my 10yo I think, I stolen the fabric she saved for pockets and made my doll a dress. Thank you very much for bring me back to this lovely memories
