Finishing The Row
Years ago, I was knitting at my grandparents' house, and when my husband said it was time to go, I said, 'Okay, I'll just finish knitting this row'. My grandfather did laugh and said he wondered how many times he'd heard that phrase from my grandmother. I think of him when I have a very long row to finish. With the sleeves added in, there are now 186 stitches in a row. It's not always possible to complete a row before going off to do something else, but I do try.

Circular needles help with the stopping mid-row. You're such a fast knitter, it will be finished before we know it!
ReplyDeleteLovely blend of colours Jane. If you had knitted it on a circular needle, then how long would it take you to "I'll just finish this row"?
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing you model it!
I don't think it's possible to knit this T shape on circular needles?
ReplyDeleteYes it is, you can knit anything on circulars - just use them as straight needles! I rarely use straight now, I find the circulars are much easier on my hands and wrists.

DeleteAh, I'm being dense, I was thinking of knitting in the round, which isn't what you meant at all. Yes, stitches less likely to slide off a circular needle. I do have a pair of long needles that I switched to for this part, so it's not too much of a problem. It just satisfies my soul to finish the row!
I recall using three pairs of short circulars, one after the other, to hold a lot of stitches - as Maureen says, utilized as straights...
DeleteThis looks a nice pattern that you are knitting and a pretty colour. Good luck with the long rows!
ReplyDeleteVery true, I don't know how many times I have said that either, when I do lace knitted tablecloths I can have up to 2,000 stitches on a round they have a long wait for me to finish a round.
ReplyDeleteLooking good so tar
Margaret
Wow, yes, some shawls too make my number of stitches look feeble! Do you have any pictures of knitted tablecloths to show, I'd love to see them?
DeleteIt's so pretty! In our house it's "Just let me close this ring." Imagine my delight when my daughter said it to me for the first time! We both laughed.
ReplyDelete:-)) wonderful moment indeed!
DeleteLooks like it's coming along beautifully!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the colours--so warm, and perfect for your autumn weather. You are a quick knitter.
