One thing about knitting, it's easy to undo! Just pull and wind and that elaborate pattern will be reduced to small balls of yarn. Sigh....
On a more positive note, Jane Eborall's Tat-it-and-see begins today. Great fun. The pattern is released in small stages, with no hint of what the final product will be. I'm not much good at guessing, I have to say, and at this stage it's too early to even attempt a wild guess. All I do know is that it will be something interesting!
The thread I'm using is Jess's tat-ilicious key lime raspberry parfait.
Oh, no! It's so sad to see your beautiful sweater unraveling. Good luck with the re-knit.
ReplyDeleteMy shuttles are wound for the TIAS... I just need to hop on over to Jane's blog to get today's instructions. I love the thread you're using!
Thanks, on two counts. I suspect I was so excited about starting the multicolour part that I didn't pay enough attention to the underarm. Next time, I will!
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, you've been busy! I have somehow missed many posts! You've tatted many things and knitted a sweater, and written a tutorial, and blogged while the generator is running (talk about pressure)!
ReplyDeleteFirst, there's the incredible shuttle! And the beautiful beaded bag! And the excellent new idea and tutorial on chain maille. And you've already tatted the first section of Jane's TIAS!
But what I really want to mention is the sweater. So sad to see all that work undone! Obviously and understandably you're a perfectionist about knitting, and I understand the competition thing. I must have been lucky because I've entered several competitions and won blue ribbons and not once did I get any negative comments about my 'sewing' the seams by using a crochet hook (chain stitch). (All the 'advice' I read about competitions said to NEVER crochet the seams together.) I believe you could have tightened up the holes afterwards and it would not have affected the judging.
I don't do much knitting these days, but I'm going to attend a local Knit and Crochet Festival in February to see 'what's new'. I didn't realize Lopi now makes a lighter weight yarn! I made several sweaters in the Icelandic yarn many years ago! I love the detail and colors in your yoke!
I was reluctant to undo the sweater, but it really was a mess. Let's hope I can do better second time round! Also, I was a bit worried that the neck was too small, so this time I will make it a bit bigger and not have to worry about it.
DeleteI must begin the TIAS today! - a little late, but it was really much too hot to think about it yesterday!
ReplyDeleteI did a bit of hunting around when I read about the hole in your yoke, and the consensus of opinion seems to be that you pick up two stitches at the point at which the hole wil appear, and then, on the second row, just K2tog. Worth a try.
Thank you! I definitely will try that. I'm going to do the grafting BEFORE I knit the yoke this time.
