For Me

I've been sewing for myself, rather than my neighbour, a dress made from the Nigerian fabric I bought recently. I haven't worn it yet, but am happy with how it looks. I altered the sleeve slightly.  I made up the pattern myself and have used it many times. The only drawback with the garments I've made is that the sleeve flips up. I thought perhaps the shape of the bottom on the sleeve causes that, so I've changed it and will have to see if that makes any difference.

  2. The bottom of the sleeve flips up.....hm.....Is there enough room in the top of the shoulder seam?

    1. I think so. But if this change doesn’t solve the problem I’ll have another look at it.

  3. I am intrigued about pattern adjustment and fitting in sewing. So, I tried to research your "sleeve flips up" problem. There are few postings about adjusting this type of sleeve, but I did find 2 things:
A knitting site recommended a slight inset of the sleeve for better drape. https://www.interweave.com/article/knitting/lisas-list-6-types-of-sweater-armholes/
And, a tutorial on regular sewing was making adjustments as small as 1/4 to 1/2 inches to get rid of folds.
I hope this is helpful. I do love your fabric and the dress.

    1. Thanks very much, I’ll follow those up. I was given a book recently called Make Your Own Patterns. It didn’t give me the answer but did prompt me to wonder whether changing something in my pattern would make a difference.
