When I saw this kimono dress on Pinterest, I thought it might make a good alternative to my ubiquitous go-to pattern. There is a step by step tutorial, great. But Soonjoo draws the pattern directly onto the fabric. Mmm. I think that's a bridge too far for me. I'm drawing it on to paper. That will hopefully give me some idea of whether it will work for me, before I go cutting into fabric. Also, if it does work well and I want to make it again, I don't want to have to start measuring from scratch again.
I'm pretty sure my sewing skills would prevent me from drawing the pattern directly on the fabric. I did have a friend in college, Rose, whose mother would go window shopping with her. Then they would go home and her mother would sew clothes exactly like those they admired. What a fabulous skill to have! I need a pattern that fits perfectly the first try, or I'm sunk!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have the guts to do it directly either. My mother could! She didn't have a single paper cutting.
ReplyDeleteThe kimono dress looks lovely!
I do admire those with those skills. And the confidence that goes with them!
ReplyDeleteI dont think I could do a pattern for a garment straight onto the fabric without a pattern. Doing it first on paper would be my way of doing it too
ReplyDeleteah to be that confident!! It's a very pretty dress, I hope the pattern works well.
