The traditional way to knit a garment is to start with the back, then knit the front, followed by the sleeves. But I thought that if I started with the sleeves, it would be easier to see how far one ball goes, so I know how much I have for front and back, and be a way to check the number of stitches I need. I've nearly finished the second sleeve.
I remember reading about someone who started with the sleeves as her gauge swatch. I like your idea of seeing how far one ball will go. It's been a while since I've knit a sweater. I don't think I'm up to it right now. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a good idea.
ReplyDeleteI would not start with sleeves if I had doubts about my yarn stash. Sleeves can be shortened or eliminated completely if one runs out of yarn, unlike the body (front/back). Hope you have more than enough wool for the complete blouse :-))))
ReplyDeleteI have a couple of patterns that start with the sleeves, I think its a great idea to see how far the ball will go
