Drape

I'm making heavy weather of this. I've done some work on the main body of my crochet top, but it feels very stiff to  me, it isn't going to drape well. I crocheted some samples using different size hooks. 3.5 mm is clearly too big:
The next sample uses a 2.5 mm hook on the bottom two rows and 2 mm on the top two rows:
Dither, dither, not sure how to choose between those two. I'm hoping that I can keep the central section I did using a 1 mm hook, and use that hook for the edging that is in the same pattern.

On Tuesday we had an 'information day', where experts gave us tips for the competition articles. The crochet fundi says an evening top should be in black or red, or perhaps grey. Hmm. Apricot not on her list!

One of the examples shown on Tuesday used an interesting asymmetrical shell pattern. I made a sample of it in the hope that I will remember it:

  1. Oh dear. All those decisions. We must be soul mates, Jane as I'm just as bad!!!

  2. It sounds like you have some pretty strict guidelines to follow! That asymmetrical pattern is interesting. I don't think I've ever seen it before. I'll keep reading to see what you decide!

  4. Add some. Beads or tassels to your top to bling it up for evening wear. Although I suppose now that the colours have been specified, anything other than those colours won't be acceptable.
Very stressful, and I don't envy your decision making process!

    1. The colour was a tip, not an absolute requirement, so I hope adding ribbon and beads or maybe sequins will suffice.

  5. This post took me back a bit. I remember making a couple of dresses for my daughter in that stitch, let me see.... must have been about 1970.

  6. I still prefer the topmost one - look-wise. Perhaps once it's blocked it will seem less stiff?
Decisions are tough but I'm glad you have good counsel in your group.

  7. I hope you will make a good decision and also that apricot will be ok. Since they barely gave you the colour tips now, it would be unfair if they didn't accept other colours. I'm thinking for a more "evening" look you could make it sit off shoulder or have a draped neckline.
