I have to accept that right here, right now, there's not much demand for my beadwork. Perhaps there will be in a post-Covid world, I don't know. It's becoming increasingly fatuous to sit at markets and sell very little. The lady I share a table at markets with, Sarah, makes soaps, in a wonderful array of scents and colours. What goes with soap? Towels. Almost ten years ago, I had a session of making hooded towels for children. I looked back at my blog, found some entries, like this one, and checked that the links to the tutorials still work. They do. So I'm throwing in the (hooded) towel and going to make some bathroomy things for the next market at the end of June.
Fabulous towel!!! :)
ReplyDeleteIf your items are not selling you might consider an Etsy shop. That is what I am working on. ;)
Questions around delivery put me off.
DeleteI can relate and that was why I haven't, but am working on it and doing as much research first. Plus, since I am just starting I am not shipping out of the US at first. ;)
DeleteGood thinking. Good luck!
DeleteI think the problem is Jane that people want something for nothing. We used to do the craft shows and although lots of people stopped and admired the work, none were prepared to pay the price.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the new project.

Thanks Briony. Yes, I think you’re right.
DeleteDefinately agree about people not wanting to pay for the work, especially when so many items are mass manufactured these days for half the price.
DeleteThe title of this post is sooooo Not You - was my first thought 😀 Until I read the content....clever word play 😍 Wishing you better luck - your reasoning has merit.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear that your wonderful work is not selling. Must say instead of lockdown encouraging me to create things it has done the opposite as rather got fed up with only myself enjoying what I had made. Do hope these fabulous towels sell, looks like a lot of work though. Things come in and out of fashion on the craft scene too, it could be soap one day and towels another! Good luck
ReplyDeleteI have experienced the same thing, it seems people just move on to other things and no matter how much you change things, they get left, something new on your table will work and you might find that your bead work will sell again. they seem to loose interest in a stall that has the same things on it, even if they look different.
