I know, I know, the cardigan is waiting to be sewn together. But I just 'had to' try out an idea. Melissa Leapman says that if you knit stocking stitch with a magic ball made with knots, the knots will all go to the purl side. I imagined making a blanket and then lining it with fabric to hide the knots. Then I had a brainwave - how about doing double knitting, so that a lining was knitted at the same time and the knots would be between the layers? I had to look up my instructions for double knitting again, in Knit Now magazine, issue 17. It would require some practice to get the tension right, and my first colour changes are rather rough, but it basically works:
Wow! Neat idea and doubly warm!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great idea!! :)
ReplyDeleteWell done! I have 2 wool beadspreads knitted by aunts years ago, they have lost shape during years, maybe a double layer also helps to keep the right shape.
ReplyDeleteGood point. In the magazine there's a pattern for a blanket in double knitting, lot of work!
DeleteGreat idea & experimentation ! It works :-)
ReplyDeleteWhen I first learnt knitting, my Mom showed me this double knitting trick & I made a pouch & was So excited. Returning to it a couple of years back, I lost patience ;-(
I've often used double knitting to make mittens. What a great idea for lots of other things like blankets and potholders.
ReplyDeleteYou, Dear, make the most interesting projects. Brilliant idea to double knit (I can barely single knit) and self-enclose the knots. I am intrigued by all of your amazing talents. Embracing Creative Bliss...
ReplyDeleteClever! My mom used to double knit scarves when I was in high school. It's something I've not tried yet.
ReplyDeleteNow that's brilliant, I love that idea,
