Easier

I'm giving satin stitch a rest for a bit while I work on the drawn thread areas of my Schwalm embroidery. This reinforcing stitch boggles the mind a little as it is worked diagonally, but it's easier to sew than satin stitch. In the middle of the night I thought, 'What am I doing, putting pictures of such amateurish attempts on the internet for all to see?' The answer is that this is a record of what I'm doing, not a prescription for anyone else!

  1. I know what you mean, sometimes I think 'oh no, I can't put that on' but actually people like to see the bad stuff as well as the good, it shows you are just a regular person and honest.
I've never tried drawn thread work. Now that's another thing to add to the list. ha ha.

  2. Oh, please keep posting the 'bad stuff' which actually is misnamed as it isn't bad AT ALL. It's good to see progress and I personally think that what you're doing is amazing.

  3. I had a friend that did this work years ago but she never did a circle shape. Unless I have this mixed up. She took a razor blade and cut only certain fibers and pulled them out and then reinforced them with stitching like a frame on outside. Is that what you have done? I will have to try this, hard to believe it is easier than satin stitch.

  4. I think it's beautiful, and it is a reminder that no matter what we attempt, we will get better with practice. I truly appreciate seeing your progress!

  5. I think that is a beautiful piece of work, ok it's a practice piece but it's nice to see how you are getting on with something new. We are all human and it's good to see the beginnings of what will become something fantastic

  6. Thanks for the encouragement everyone! Carollyn, you may be thinking of Hardanger, which is similar in that certain threads are cut and pulled out but is very square, whereas Schwalm embroidery has shapes like circles and hearts.
