Competition

Yesterday I received a booklet with the details of next year's competitions. Lo and behold, there's a tatting section! I shall do my bit to 'promote interest and thus to ensure that the craft will not become extinct'. I was thinking of doing Jane Eborall's Friendship bookmark, which is one of my favourites, but when I read the booklet more carefully, it said that the overall theme of the competition is flowers, so I had better choose a pattern that includes flowers. Plenty of scope there. There are a number of other rules and regulations to abide by, eg you can use coloured thread but not variegated thread. Not sure the point of that one, but there you go.

  1. How about this one? Sorry to be self promoting but I thought you might like it. http://www.janeeborall.freeservers.com/Flowerbookmark.pdf

    1. Yes, that's one of the ones that immediately came to mind. I've made it before, though as an edging rather than a bookmark. I think it will fit the rules. Thanks!

  3. Great content! Lots of scope to choose from with a bookmark.

Jane’s pattern popped into my head as well. It is a good one! There are some very good Julie Patterson patterns as well, if you have her books - lots of florals to choose from.

  4. how interesting. Tatting must be coming more common for them to add it to the competition, or is it the other way around? They think it is disappearing.
I too thought of Jane's Flower Bookmark, tho there are others out there.

  5. The pamphlet says that 'designs consist of rings, chains and picots'. I'm not sure if that means one is restricted to rings, chains and picots. I'm thinking of doing one very traditional and one the uses more innovative techniques. It does say, 'no bare thread'!
