I use two skeins for a woman's sock, and wasn't sure how much extra a man's sock would need, so I spun four skeins. I mixed yellow, blue and red dyes to get brown, put the skeins into the dye bath and it looked more beige than brown. So I hauled the skeins out, added more dye and then put them back. Whether it was because of that, or because the dye bath is a bit small for four skeins, the dyeing came out very uneven. The skeins looked horrible, frankly:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgozsJCclKWPAKFocf7XwIbZabyOezhI8Www5rNis4Sy5S80MNcveOeVw1PC5D1pKGvCWfT0-2pzKFxFqVriWBemHoy3phLWll2nh4_pOddwXhiD3Sfm0N1PMspAYGWinES1z0hsHmD0j5ut4yfBc9tYK0w6g08nq8lny9qpfTVcYuRKOWjgluqjGVFKXc/s460/IMG_20240307_175040%20(Copy).jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="460" data-original-width="422" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgozsJCclKWPAKFocf7XwIbZabyOezhI8Www5rNis4Sy5S80MNcveOeVw1PC5D1pKGvCWfT0-2pzKFxFqVriWBemHoy3phLWll2nh4_pOddwXhiD3Sfm0N1PMspAYGWinES1z0hsHmD0j5ut4yfBc9tYK0w6g08nq8lny9qpfTVcYuRKOWjgluqjGVFKXc/s320/IMG_20240307_175040%20(Copy).jpg" width="294" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">But knitted up, it looks fine, I think. To begin with, I used green for the chains and yellow for rings, but I decided I was making things unnecessarily complicated for myself and changed to all yellow. I also realised that it was a mistake to try to use shuttle and ball, two shuttles work better. I notice in the Renulek photos that joining picots are very small. But when I tried to do that on round 3, my circle didn't meet up! So I'm not making my picots that tiny. I wonder if it's because I'm using Milford thread that is very tightly wound? The pattern is called 'Leaves', by ValKnitting. </div>Jane McLellanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17221433363521511688noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5886770962693197798.post-73926350041220934572024-02-19T01:20:00.000-08:002024-02-19T01:20:11.743-08:00Another Pair<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrT723a4ZzXPDRhyphenhyphen6oxVE6gaaM5Wj-fNjN06SEg4tWWMpdbBPpUSi8wZTw762Q4FDfh2QgK2HcQI-AynAgHKM803OQYWk1WDJHF4VVGdnfAV1JbxBYqGzWdWcZ3Vc2mWFVAdbF8ArlFNcKLTGVlDQxtdfQolE4uGnB5qOYV9VkNBey8SQcQ3_AQxAxavA/s517/IMG_20240219_101451_edit_2923323917261%20(Copy).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="392" data-original-width="517" height="243" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrT723a4ZzXPDRhyphenhyphen6oxVE6gaaM5Wj-fNjN06SEg4tWWMpdbBPpUSi8wZTw762Q4FDfh2QgK2HcQI-AynAgHKM803OQYWk1WDJHF4VVGdnfAV1JbxBYqGzWdWcZ3Vc2mWFVAdbF8ArlFNcKLTGVlDQxtdfQolE4uGnB5qOYV9VkNBey8SQcQ3_AQxAxavA/s320/IMG_20240219_101451_edit_2923323917261%20(Copy).jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p></p><p>I've finished another pair of socks for my sock basket. Sorry about that, I thought it was working well! You can email me, on the address on the side bar or ikorro at hotmail dot com and I'll send you the same PDF that is on Keep&Share. </p><p>I use baskets on my table at the monthly market, to display my work. I've now filled the puppet basket, but the sock basket is looking dismal:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXdQtlkfhaOLzGBwwdKgsd3077SQvrLDZgJ5VNCmnRMVFMXNhElnqcop079pzusnXB-zCgIQCRnFy9WieU1cwvWo73vmCvS4JF87v_8sLRSTCVsAGtfNSmOynIIAEGptuA2TNCb9P8bVL1yQfRxRwhOqsrf9XL8KSTYnjY21XPZif_I93XPIMdjukGxMw/s423/IMG_20240207_095735_edit_4050003371777%20(Copy).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="422" data-original-width="423" height="319" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXdQtlkfhaOLzGBwwdKgsd3077SQvrLDZgJ5VNCmnRMVFMXNhElnqcop079pzusnXB-zCgIQCRnFy9WieU1cwvWo73vmCvS4JF87v_8sLRSTCVsAGtfNSmOynIIAEGptuA2TNCb9P8bVL1yQfRxRwhOqsrf9XL8KSTYnjY21XPZif_I93XPIMdjukGxMw/s320/IMG_20240207_095735_edit_4050003371777%20(Copy).jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>Summer is beginning to wane, so it's time to fill that basket again. Every week they send me a report showing the number of views of my patterns. They vary, of course, but mostly the figures are in single digits. The most popular pattern isn't mine at all, it's Grace Tan's Jane's Bookmark Cross. Here's the puzzling bit - last week some of the patterns had views of over 100 and this week they're in the 300s! How does such a huge increase come about? Some of them are rather obscure, like the 'Beaded Knitting Using a Chart', which is seldom looked at. It's not a problem, far from it, but just a puzzle. </p><p>A post without a picture is a bit dull, so here's a photo of paper flowers we made from doilies at Friday's craft group meeting:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsvCQW9FQdhsB5NcQKX6p06VzFG_AdOFWGHuLCGDMKcLaudfWgYJ6U0RqUy2ZvMb5lb7QSBZnjskKrPstl8sDlozaQmIMjkJM512kMx2cE_PZACubsXWr5pNEScMDcAQDuiNVyF4GvbB_1hdOnq5qTiT_m6QXDO7Vxs4fT4RZj85mpUMyZ_MAEeDyIMXY/s579/Photo0864%20(Copy).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="579" data-original-width="472" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsvCQW9FQdhsB5NcQKX6p06VzFG_AdOFWGHuLCGDMKcLaudfWgYJ6U0RqUy2ZvMb5lb7QSBZnjskKrPstl8sDlozaQmIMjkJM512kMx2cE_PZACubsXWr5pNEScMDcAQDuiNVyF4GvbB_1hdOnq5qTiT_m6QXDO7Vxs4fT4RZj85mpUMyZ_MAEeDyIMXY/s320/Photo0864%20(Copy).jpg" width="261" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Jane McLellanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17221433363521511688noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5886770962693197798.post-31120630156664669962024-02-01T00:15:00.000-08:002024-02-01T00:15:50.952-08:00The Basket Looks Better<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxJfbvz0JG_eB7fm7tdbKdcZtXK-Pn1hQoNpF1JMokuy-QWqX8GCYzImg6OpsLrd2020CyUzaMo7Ktm795zuKAv2_WVUz7aHYFVpSA9pGPkawW3Drd7KC15bupkWbRMdENtgndUN3O_zHvdeksGgWknVY5c6Z9WLubdLnEN_xL_FmWU850xtpRBJw2K40/s402/IMG_20240201_100319_edit_9798443133400%20(Copy).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="377" data-original-width="402" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxJfbvz0JG_eB7fm7tdbKdcZtXK-Pn1hQoNpF1JMokuy-QWqX8GCYzImg6OpsLrd2020CyUzaMo7Ktm795zuKAv2_WVUz7aHYFVpSA9pGPkawW3Drd7KC15bupkWbRMdENtgndUN3O_zHvdeksGgWknVY5c6Z9WLubdLnEN_xL_FmWU850xtpRBJw2K40/s320/IMG_20240201_100319_edit_9798443133400%20(Copy).jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>Right, I've made some more puppets and the basket is no longer empty. They're much easier and quicker than the velvet bags I've just finished. To start with, they're not lined. The fabric is also very easy to work with. It presses crisply, so I can do the casings without using pins or clips. I did 15 bags yesterday and will complete the other half of the order today. <p></p>Jane McLellanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17221433363521511688noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5886770962693197798.post-29412393675193318002024-01-25T00:37:00.000-08:002024-01-25T00:37:54.129-08:00Thirty<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6uexwrC9eyhrTylbPdaos8WCrsGazwa2c06-CDvkYG9QE0vTHVnjdCPR2vAEyTNWQcOLy06QDgif3A1aTIDPl4H0m-2K8pfnF00yJ_HFg58bmU3KGL3OGrPkIoo-SiBjzpmHZhZdcff_LfY49Vem95VFY6FjSMICuMUQcenPhH-2cW7gTbL2RowEjs7o/s563/IMG_20240125_093338_edit_4771140220103%20(Copy).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="343" data-original-width="563" height="195" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6uexwrC9eyhrTylbPdaos8WCrsGazwa2c06-CDvkYG9QE0vTHVnjdCPR2vAEyTNWQcOLy06QDgif3A1aTIDPl4H0m-2K8pfnF00yJ_HFg58bmU3KGL3OGrPkIoo-SiBjzpmHZhZdcff_LfY49Vem95VFY6FjSMICuMUQcenPhH-2cW7gTbL2RowEjs7o/s320/IMG_20240125_093338_edit_4771140220103%20(Copy).jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>I've just finished sewing 30 velvet bags, completed before the deadline. Phew. 22 of the bags are black, but there are three different linings. I don't have to thread the drawstrings in, which I'm happy about. That's a fiddly and time consuming task. I have to go over them now with a lint roller, the velvet has a tendency to collect fluff. <p></p>Jane McLellanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17221433363521511688noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5886770962693197798.post-23206812892824796492024-01-22T00:38:00.000-08:002024-01-22T00:38:48.896-08:00More Velvet<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZpxobbkC7pBPN-pHkM-Els8Ra1UY2qbyGYsGm-krOqEyL2gFxUoBu9yOeO4EUklN6pCGs-KfOzK0-mQtsb_jeDkqXbmlJaIUzsN0gdF0Qfn_ergP0qxifunCznT3YUVkFWYGAkjG2y0vcUOqTUdjeO4KtLFKwa4s-c5fEBaa5vTjVy2EZZ8wCTo69hzs/s562/IMG_20240122_100405_edit_6147784241769%20(Copy).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="374" data-original-width="562" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZpxobbkC7pBPN-pHkM-Els8Ra1UY2qbyGYsGm-krOqEyL2gFxUoBu9yOeO4EUklN6pCGs-KfOzK0-mQtsb_jeDkqXbmlJaIUzsN0gdF0Qfn_ergP0qxifunCznT3YUVkFWYGAkjG2y0vcUOqTUdjeO4KtLFKwa4s-c5fEBaa5vTjVy2EZZ8wCTo69hzs/s320/IMG_20240122_100405_edit_6147784241769%20(Copy).jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>A friend of mine kindly looked through her stash and found some velvet fabric for me. The black I was using over the weekend is very soft and slippery. I did know from reading S<a href="https://so-sew-easy.com/">ew So Easy</a> that the term velvet refers to a kind of weave, not a fibre, so velvet can be made from anything. But I wasn't prepared for the difference between the two kinds of velvet! Eventually I realised that it was quicker to baste/tack the velvet to the lining rather that using pins and having to redo the seams. Onward, onward, I still have 17 bags to sew by the end of the week. <p></p>Jane McLellanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17221433363521511688noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5886770962693197798.post-80317818741190658852024-01-18T00:31:00.000-08:002024-01-18T00:31:07.489-08:00Change Of Tack<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh02KIfg2WQ9EoXp3bokexnoxEZNZ0HHnVWKZo_gADGOxsvsYfJhmXbJz6U1MUbrI3fe_TLezWUIWwEYxB0F_FHB3ESRTljdYfwelKFdtkHXWMISD8WMO6o8i0jJDlhi-j2sEbPqE8sAE98TIM9X4jZd_9DZmeyWDWjNr5NW63shS_Fm1ulKy5tnIITdw0/s506/IMG_20240118_100218_edit_8723815464293%20(Copy).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="506" data-original-width="338" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh02KIfg2WQ9EoXp3bokexnoxEZNZ0HHnVWKZo_gADGOxsvsYfJhmXbJz6U1MUbrI3fe_TLezWUIWwEYxB0F_FHB3ESRTljdYfwelKFdtkHXWMISD8WMO6o8i0jJDlhi-j2sEbPqE8sAE98TIM9X4jZd_9DZmeyWDWjNr5NW63shS_Fm1ulKy5tnIITdw0/s320/IMG_20240118_100218_edit_8723815464293%20(Copy).jpg" width="214" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>By mid-afternoon I was bored with making velvet bags. It's no good me persisting in such a frame of mind, I'm bound to make mistakes! Luckily, there's always something else I could be or should be doing. I decided to start preparing for Friday's meeting in the retirement home. A local animal shelter has asked for toys for the dogs to play with, so we're working on that. Last week we made plaited ropes in bright fabric:<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSivQAKkWwekZui6GUNX9Ii6Nj6ZLhTlzHlkGDz5exyyVDITDV0We7F-efMXuqiHOriX_bUZ0TFzGmXzk4tVXi2ptJBBBJk4sM9WQFMPv4Tm3trFP04ACAgRaCQT8kXGbfV0spF4TPw1k6HLjjQKvuMn_vBPgjqZVJjMJwHzkq45ds59djfKoNOy5jtBc/s640/Photo0844%20(Copy).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSivQAKkWwekZui6GUNX9Ii6Nj6ZLhTlzHlkGDz5exyyVDITDV0We7F-efMXuqiHOriX_bUZ0TFzGmXzk4tVXi2ptJBBBJk4sM9WQFMPv4Tm3trFP04ACAgRaCQT8kXGbfV0spF4TPw1k6HLjjQKvuMn_vBPgjqZVJjMJwHzkq45ds59djfKoNOy5jtBc/s320/Photo0844%20(Copy).jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><p>I wanted different projects for this week. There are plenty of ideas and tutorials on Pinterest. I tend to browse and then combine ideas from different sites. The ball at the top may be too difficult for the group members, the other two are easier. The members often surprise me though, choosing projects I think they won't want to do. In any case, we'll have something to give to the animal shelter. </p>Jane McLellanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17221433363521511688noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5886770962693197798.post-17704494251686464132024-01-17T00:36:00.000-08:002024-01-17T00:36:15.376-08:00Black Velvet<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggk9qMM6MrqYT90ESfmJ_r_DwhGjznUYciRkt6YbeqWBVvbDTSahGPZfTzbUWfNtnxq1FKh1UMlefNwjWF3G8KzsPmuMCLW3dhxUgPFgIB_bEgGQDxOysjMgQulJ1rCuEVnxoemupc9FIlt4x-JZ0hu-NdUyz7Bn5w5Q00_5mX_Q0yBRJfIh7-PYWMss4/s563/IMG_20240117_102223_edit_6923228394776%20(Copy).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="422" data-original-width="563" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggk9qMM6MrqYT90ESfmJ_r_DwhGjznUYciRkt6YbeqWBVvbDTSahGPZfTzbUWfNtnxq1FKh1UMlefNwjWF3G8KzsPmuMCLW3dhxUgPFgIB_bEgGQDxOysjMgQulJ1rCuEVnxoemupc9FIlt4x-JZ0hu-NdUyz7Bn5w5Q00_5mX_Q0yBRJfIh7-PYWMss4/s320/IMG_20240117_102223_edit_6923228394776%20(Copy).jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>I am now making progress on the bags, in spite of having cut a whole lot of lining pieces the wrong size. The problem with using a production line system is that if you make a mistake, you can make it many times over! <p></p>Jane McLellanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17221433363521511688noreply@blogger.com5
