Quilling - Not for Me!

At yesterday's craft group meeting we had a quilling demonstration. Wikipedia explains quilling thus. There are examples of beautiful work on Pinterest and the internet generally. It's not a craft I'm going to be taking up. It involves glue! I avoid anything that involves glue. But it was interesting to hear about it and see the methods involved. I like to learn something new, even if I'm not going to try it. One interesting point that the demonstrator made is that the pictures on the internet give no idea of how tiny the motif are. You work with very small pieces of paper, coiled into tiny circles. Perhaps we should all be more aware of scale in our pictures?

  1. Same with me too - fibre only crafts for me. I don't mind glue but I think it should stay in the bottle unless needed occasionally for stiffening tatting!!!

  2. I bought quill in materials and tools a few years back and also have some truly spectacular quilling pics on my Pinterest Board. Did it for a tiny bit, then tatting came back into my life and all else was lost ;-P

  3. That's too bad. I enjoy quilling. All the scrolls, circles, daintiness reminds me of tatting.

  4. Regarding scale, I took pictures with coins when I first started to provide an idea of the scale, now I either tell you how big it is, the thread size or include a shuttle in the picture.

  5. One of my sons was taught quilling in his Primary school, years ago - I had never heard of it and was amazed when I saw the gorgeous Christmas decorations the kids had made. Not for me either.

  6. This is something that I have tried, I enjoyed it but it can be very time consuming and that is when you soon become bored!
