New Home For Ducklings

The ducklings are getting a bit big now to spend all their time in the yellow crate. So yesterday Jack  made a pen for them outside the diningroom window, with the yellow crate turned on its side to provide a shelter. They seem to be happy in there, nibbling at the grass and running around. They came back inside for the night. There are owls and other hazards at night and it could get chilly out there for ducklings with no mum to keep them warm.
They're not really easy to photograph, but this gives some idea.

  2. They are growing big! - but I am worrying about who will teach them to be proper ducks when you release them back into the wild? - I know, I worry too much.

  3. When I was a little girl, we would go to the arboretum after church and feed the ducks. I loved watching them! They are very busy little creatures!

  5. I had little chickens and some falcon was watching them to where they took one in front of me, I was so shocked still can't get over it, he had no fear of me.

    1. I do worry about that because a hawk of some kind came on to the verandah when they were still in the crate. He flew off when I went out, but he could catch one much more easily now.

  6. Life is full of hazards for these little ones but you've given them a chance at life that they wouldn't otherwise have. Do you have a local wildlife sanctuary you could contact? They are often willing to take them and rehome them to be released into the wild. Its just a thought.

    1. It is a thought. A few years ago we rescued a vulture and arranged for it to go to a bird sanctuary, but it has apparently closed down recently.
