Twinkle Toes

Since I added beads to granddaughter Isabel's socks, I thought I'd add beads to these socks for granddaughter Nellie too. I threaded the beads onto the wool, which I had spun and dyed, and then moved them into position as I needed them. The pattern works well for this because I can put the beads between two purl stitches.

The socks are ready to be posted off to New Zealand for Nellie's birthday.

  1. What lovely names your granddaughters have - all the old-fashioned names are coming back, aren't they? My newest granddaughter who is 8 weeks old, is named Eliza.

    1. Nellie's name is really Penelope, and she's called that at school. Eliza is nice. Yes, names like Emma have come back into fashion.

  3. My great-grandmother could knit with circular needles, while my grandmother can't. During the war (they lived far from each other) she needed socks for her daughters and she invented her pattern with 2 normal needles. I still have and wear those she knitted for me many years ago.

    1. These are knitted on double pointed needles. I like not having to sew them together at the end!

  6. So cute! Maybe when I retire I'll make time to knit socks again. I'm sure my granddaughters would get a kick out of the beads as well!
