In The Clear

Apparently if you go to watch an NFL game in America, you can't take a handbag or tote to the game unless it is see-through. So Maiden Jane has made a tutorial explaining how to make you own clear tote bag. As far as I know, no such restrictions apply to sports lovers in South Africa, but I thought the clear tote could be put to other uses. To store craft projects perhaps - easy to see which project is where. This could be a candidate for my Christmas Market stall at the end of the month.

Plastic isn't all that easy to work with. I did some experimenting and decided that the best way to sew it is with a piece of paper on top of the plastic. Line up the paper carefully with the edge of the clear plastic and it also makes it easier to see where to sew. And wonder clips (like tiny clothes pegs) are marvellous for holding pieces together without doing any damage.

  1. Great idea to use the bags sheets come in. I save them all the time, but I never thought about cutting the top off and replacing with fabric and handles. Unfortunately, yes, we need clear plastic totes in many places for security reasons :( But as you said, there are other uses too! Thanks for the tutorial!

  4. Wow, you put a lot of time in that tutorial! I t is a dgreat bag to go to the beach. It saves you from grabbing around in your bag with greasy or sandy hands. Wach for baboons, though! they are clever.

    1. No, no, the tutorial is not mine, it was done by Maiden Jane. Too many Janes around! Good idea to take it to the beach. Hmmm, many uses.

  5. What a great idea, We only need plastic see though bags when we go though airport security here as you are not allowed any liquids on aircrafts, And only items of less than 200ml in hand luggage, many people put little bottles and lipsticks etc in the clear bags to go though security i just pack mine can't be doing with the hassel.
I like your idea of keep projects clean I have my take with me project in a plastic bag think I will try this for it.

  6. Admire you even attempting to work with plastic, what a super bag. I am afraid I wouldn't want anyone to see what I had in mine though, always in an awful mess! Interesting about having to take a see-through bag to the game in America.
