Centred

A short break from bookmarks... We went to town yesterday, so I bought fabric to make a centre for my Victoria Trellis Doily. I tried cutting a circle and edging it on my sewing machine, but it looked a bit messy. So I cut two circles and sewed them together, leaving a small gap to turn right side out. That worked better. Thanks Frivole for the inspiration and the tutorial for tatting the first round. And for naming the doily!

  1. Looks wonderful Jane! I'm ashamed to say mine still doesn't have a centre! The "to-do" list gets ever longer and longer... So well done on getting yours completed.

  2. It's beautiful - and a wonderful idea, to sew two fabric circles together. I would never have thought of that.

    1. The material was thinner than I'd realised, two layers work better than one, and it is neat.

    2. Thanks, Jane, for doing that. It is bigger than I thought. Something to keep me out of trouble for a while!

    2. It had better not be!!! I just ordered some Cebelia in ivory in order to tat this as I did not want to run out of thread. I am taking you at your word and hope this is not as scary as it looks!

    3. p.s. I will use Cebelia #30. How large was it in the #20?

    4. I got out my 'bilingual' tapemeasure, centimetres and inches. The edging itself measures 12 cm or 4 1/2 inches in width. The whole doily measures 35 cm or slightly under 14 inches in diameter. Hope that helps!

  7. Well done that is a gorgeous doily, and by doing two layers of fabric gives the doily a stronger middle, great idea o use two layers.
