Working on bells

I need to make 6 of these bells before Saturday. It's taking me longer than I bargained for, I'll have to skip blog-reading for a bit! The pattern is by Jane Eborall. It should have beads incorporated. Luckily the person who wants them said not to add beads, otherwise they would take me even longer to make. On the other hand, I think the beads probably help the bell keep its shape. Another example of how you alter Jane's patterns at your peril!

  1. Well Good luck meeting your deadline! It is amazing how beads can change things. :o)

  2. What a huge compliment. Made me chuckle but I do appreciate it very much. They're going well but six is a LOT in such a short space of time.

  4. good work!! some years ago I realized 35/40 (don't remember exactly) in different colors. you are right: beads make the work longer, but they are not usefull to keep the shape, they are good only to embellish the bells
To keep the shape I use glue and water :)
you can see mine here :)

    1. Thanks for the link, they look very pretty. Yes, I think I would probably have to shape them with glue and water whether there were bells or not.

    2. vinylic glue and water is a wonderful sistem... you put a little ball inside every bells, then dry with water/glue and keep drying... the result is great! glue is transparent and not become yellow... (I use these measure: 2parts of glue, 1part of water, so they become very solid; if necessary you can repeat the stiffening)
If you like to the glue/water mix you can add some glitter in gold or silver ;)

    3. The bells are delightful. Do you know what the lady intends for them? I would like to see them starched, added with wide white ribbon to be tied around the pews for a wedding.

I have seen little white baskets made in a similar way, and each persons wrapped wedding cake was in one.

    4. No, Nettie didn't say what she was going to do with them. I supposed it was something for Christmas. Last year I used my one to decorate my Christmas cake, and put a picture of it on my Christmas e-mails.
