Market Bag Tatting

The thread I used to knit the Market Bag is 4 ply mercerized cotton, Elle Premier, made in Bulgaria. Far too thick for tatting, of course. But so smooth and tightly spun, it was tempting. Why not give it a try? It works fine, though I won't get much tatting from one bobbin. It's interesting that the work doesn't curve as much as with finer thread. I assume that's because it's difficult to pull the stitches really tight? How about adding beads?

Yup, that works too. I'm thinking this thread might work for barefoot sandals. I'd better find my biggest shuttle.

  1. Tatsy shuttles are great for larger threads. :)
Here is where to get them:

They don't look big in the picture, but they are very large compared to Clover shuttles. :)

  3. There are other places to get Tatsy shuttles so have fun shopping.
My father made me a Lady Hoare style shuttle to use with yarn. It worked well, I just haven't used it in a while.

  4. Oh, that's interesting, thanks. I could perhaps make one like that. I have a biggish post shuttle, but I worry that the thick thread might damage the spacing.

    1. mmmmm I don't know if my reply went or not, so again
I forgot to mention that I used a hitch or twist around one of the "arms" or around the middle while tatting the DS as the yarn would occasionally unwind since the ends aren't closed to hold it in.

    2. Ok, thanks, good idea. Like when I use a spindle.
