Oh Dear!

Or words to that effect. When I started Jane Eborall's Fandango Edging, I assumed that a 50g ball of size 20 thread would be ample to make an edging long enough to go around my small tablecloth. But yesterday I began to have doubts. I don't want to carry on if I'm not going to have enough thread to finish the job. Luckily Jack has an electronic scale for his beer making, so this morning I weighed what is left of the ball. 32g. So I have used 28g to do one and a half sides. So I will need 75g to finish the job! I hoped that perhaps I had another ball lurking somewhere, but no, this is the last one. Some sort of plan B required, but for now the project will have to go on hold.

  1. That is such a shame, how about putting a call out to see if anyone has this particular thread lurking in their stash? Sadly I don't as I went back to your orignal picture of the ball, but someone may have it and save the day, or should I say tablecloth!

  2. As usual my little sister's come up with a great idea. What is the thread called? It looks to me as if you've got enough there on the ball but looks can be deceptive.

  3. Thanks Sally, that is a good idea. The thread is DMC Cebelia, 712 No 20. The lot is 275883. The Bar code is 077540122455. It was bought in Spotlight in Perth, Australia, a couple of years ago. If anyone has half a ball of it, I'd be glad to swap it for hand dyed thread or whatever.

Jane, I seemed to be using the thread up at a furious rate, which was why I decided to weigh the ball.

  4. I have two balls with no lot number or bar code. They're older. If you want to try them, they're yours. One is a little more off white and full ball. One bright white and partially used but mostly there. I could send you a few yards to see how good the match is or send it all? karen in OR knitnride@yahoo.com

  5. I've got 6 balls of size 20 Cebelia in white which I'm winding into skeins to try dyeing because I don't like that they're really an off white and not a true white. If they'd be helpful, let me know. Looks like your color is actually cream. If you can't get the dye lot right you should still be able to order it somewhere. If you can't order it in Australia, I'd be happy to order in here in the states and ship it off to you there. Even if the dye lots are different they should be pretty close and you might try dyeing the whole piece when you're done. Let me know if I can help, jessica@snapdragonlace.com

  6. I left you a message on your most recent post about the ecru ball I have. Now looking at this post I think the one I have is a bit darker than what you have shown here. Regardless if you don't get anything better to try, I'd be glad to get this one to you.
